NII Shonan Meeting No. 258: Advancing Open Machine Learning
📅 Monday, 15 March 2027 → Thursday, 18 March 2027 in 241 days
NII research meeting on open ML datasets, benchmarks and reproducible AI experiment lifecycles.
NII Shonan Meeting No. 258, “Advancing Open Machine Learning”, runs from 15 to 18 March 2027 at the Shonan Village Center in Hayama, Japan, with check-in on 14 March. It is an in-person research meeting in the Shonan series, bringing together a focused group of specialists rather than a general audience.
The meeting centres on open machine learning, the principle that data, code, models and methodologies should be open, accessible and well organised. Much of the discussion revolves around OpenML, described as a collaborative open-science platform where researchers share datasets, algorithms, models and experiments, alongside topics such as evaluating large foundation models, dataset and model interoperability, and strengthening open-science culture in AI research.
It is organised by Joaquin Vanschoren (Eindhoven University of Technology), Sašo Džeroski (Jožef Stefan Institute) and Takashi Washio (Osaka University). Given the small, participation-based format, researchers interested in taking part should contact the organisers through the official page. The meeting will appeal to those working on open science, reproducibility and benchmarking in machine learning.
