📍 Shonan Village Center, Hayama, Japan

Specialist NII research meeting on the intersection of AI methods and hardware security.

NII Shonan Meeting No. 253, “Cutting-edge AI and Hardware Security”, is a residential research seminar held at the Shonan Village Center in Hayama, Japan, from 14 to 17 September 2026, with check-in the evening of 13 September. Like other Shonan meetings, it is a small, invitation-based gathering rather than an open-registration conference.

The programme examines how artificial intelligence both challenges and strengthens the security of hardware systems. According to the official page, topics span AI-assisted attacks and defences, side-channel analysis, fault injection, Physical Unclonable Functions and microarchitectural threats, combining keynote presentations with collaborative brainstorming sessions aimed at producing actionable research directions.

The meeting is organised by Shivam Bhasin (NTU Singapore), Stjepan Picek (University of Zagreb and Radboud University) and Kota Yoshida (AIST, Japan). As an invitation-only format, participation is limited; researchers interested in the topic should consult the NII Shonan site for details on how such meetings are convened.
