NII Shonan Meeting No. 251: Green Intelligence
📅 Monday, 31 August 2026 → Friday, 4 September 2026 in 45 days
Focused NII research meeting on reducing the energy and environmental cost of AI-enabled software.
NII Shonan Meeting No. 251, titled “Green Intelligence: Sustainable Development and Operations of Intelligent Systems”, is a research meeting held from 31 August to 4 September 2026 at the Shonan Village Center in Hayama, Japan, with check-in on 30 August. It follows the established Shonan format of a small, focused gathering built around roughly 35 participants.
The meeting sits firmly within AI and software engineering: it addresses the energy efficiency of AI-based software and how intelligent systems can be engineered and operated in a more sustainable, energy-efficient way. The stated aim is to bring together software engineering, performance and AI experts from academia and industry.
It is organised by Heng Li (Polytechnique Montréal), Lei Ma (The University of Tokyo) and Marin Litoiu (York University). This is an invitation-only research meeting rather than an open conference, so there is no public registration; those interested would need to be invited by the organising committee.
