LxMLS 2026 — Lisbon Machine Learning Summer School

📅 Monday, 20 July 2026 → Saturday, 25 July 2026 in 3 days

📍 Centro de Congressos, Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal

The 16th Lisbon Machine Learning School: six days of ML and NLP lectures and labs at Instituto Superior Técnico, with lectures also broadcast on YouTube.

LxMLS is one of Europe''s longest-running machine learning schools, now in its 16th edition. It “covers a range of machine learning topics, from theory to practice, that are important in solving natural language processing problems” — six days of morning lectures and afternoon labs at the Instituto Superior Técnico Congress Center.

The 2026 lecture list is unusually strong: Mário Figueiredo on linear models, Bhiksha Raj (CMU) on deep learning, Noah Smith (Washington) on sequence models, André Martins on transformers and large pretrained models, Adèle H. Ribeiro (RWTH Aachen) on causality, Desmond Elliott (Copenhagen) on vision and language, Leon Bottou (Flatiron Institute) on “The Fiction Machine”, and Raquel Fernández (Amsterdam) on modelling multimodal human cognition with VLMs, with Eric Xing (CMU/MBZUAI), Ivan Titov (Edinburgh/Amsterdam) and Zita Marinho also lecturing.

Applications are closed — they ran to 8 May 2026, with an acceptance rate a little above 30%%. (The 13 July “late registration” date is a payment deadline for students already admitted, not a last-chance door.) Fees ranged from €400 for students to €750 for late non-academic registrations. If you did not get a place, the lectures are broadcast on YouTube, and the ELLIS Doctoral Symposium runs at the same venue immediately afterwards.
