Five-day advanced virtual course on AI governance and human-rights practice in African contexts.
The Advanced Human Rights Course on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights in Africa is a dated, five-day live virtual course running from 12 to 16 October 2026, delivered online via Zoom by the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Human Rights. It is a fixed-date offering rather than a rolling programme.
The course examines the intersection of artificial intelligence and human rights, with particular emphasis on how AI systems affect rights in the African context. Teaching is delivered live, and a high proficiency in English is required. Participation is capped at 25 individuals, with priority given to candidates from a diverse range of African countries.
The fee is USD 150, and a limited number of competitive scholarships are available. Applications are open, with a deadline of 30 September 2026; prospective participants must submit a CV, a letter of recommendation, a motivation letter and, for students, academic records. Confirm the teaching faculty and any updates on the official course page before applying.
