Workshop on Machine Learning for Earth System Modelling

📅 Monday, 24 August 2026 → Wednesday, 26 August 2026 in 34 days

📍 Universitatsclub Bonn, Bonn, Germany

JSC hybrid workshop on ML for Earth system modelling, weather and climate models, Bonn, 24-26 Aug 2026.

Organised by the Julich Supercomputing Centre at Forschungszentrum Julich, this workshop gathers researchers and practitioners working at the interface of machine learning and Earth system sciences. It runs at the Universitatsclub Bonn with an online attendance option.

The programme concentrates on machine-learning-based numerical weather prediction and ML-based climate models, alongside the computational and data challenges of training such systems on supercomputers. Attendees discuss data-driven, hybrid and physics-informed methods for modelling the atmosphere, ocean and wider Earth system. With a supercomputing centre as host, the event is strongly oriented toward the practical questions of scaling ML models for climate and weather, making it a solidly AI-core fit for the climate and sustainability gap.
