ICoRD 2027 — Research Into Design: Design of AI, Design by AI, Design with AI
📅 Wednesday, 6 January 2027 → Saturday, 9 January 2027 in 171 days
An IISc-hosted design-research conference whose 2027 theme is explicitly centred on the design of AI, design by AI and design with AI.
ICoRD'27, the eleventh International Conference on Research into Design, returns to its founding home at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, hosted by the Department of Design and Manufacturing from 6 to 9 January 2027. Held biennially in India since 2006 under the auspices of DeScIn (India's Academy of Design Sciences), ICoRD draws an international community of design researchers, practitioners, educators and doctoral students. This edition takes the theme "Design of AI, Design by AI, Design with AI", framing three distinct relationships between artificial intelligence and design practice: how AI itself should be designed to serve society humanely and responsibly; which design tasks can be automated by AI and how; and how human and machine strengths can be combined on shared design problems.
The programme spans invited keynotes from international experts, refereed paper sessions in podium, poster, panel and themed formats, industry perspectives and studies in practice, a Doctoral Symposium, young-researcher networking and workshop sessions, alongside the ICoNNN Awards. Proceedings will be published as a Springer book, with extended versions of selected papers recommended for fast-track review at the journal AI EDAM (Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing, Cambridge University Press). Sited in Bengaluru — a hub where research, design and start-ups increasingly intersect around AI — the conference offers attendees a rigorous, academically grounded venue for connecting design-research methods to the rapid advance of intelligent systems. The Programme and Conference Chair is Prof. Amaresh Chakrabarti, with Prof. Vishal Singh as Vice-Chair.
