UN-track multilateral process on AI governance, following the September 2024 Pact for the Future + Global Digital Compact adoption (Article 36) at UNGA. The UN AI Advisory Body's "Governing AI for Humanity" recommendations are being operationalized through this forum process. Anticipated activity 2026-2027: Independent International Scientific Panel on AI established; Global Dialogue on AI Governance launches at UNGA; potential first treaty-track negotiations early 2027. Forum sessions co-organized by UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Technology + UN Tech Envoy office. Major pivot from advisory recommendations to compliance mechanisms.
