Foundations of AI Rising Stars Workshop (FAIRS 2026)
📅 Monday, 26 October 2026 → Tuesday, 27 October 2026 in 105 days
A selective two-day Warwick workshop for PhD students and postdocs working on the foundations of AI and machine learning. Applications close 15 July 2026.
FAIRS is a selective two-day workshop at the University of Warwick for “prominent PhD students and postdoctoral researchers working on foundations of artificial intelligence and machine learning” — the theoretical end of the field rather than the applied one. It is organised with the ELLIS Unit Oxford, and the format is talks, panels and posters from the selected cohort.
The important date is not the workshop: applications close on 15 July 2026, months before the October dates. Eligibility is restricted to researchers approaching or just past their PhD who do not yet hold a faculty position, and applications go in by email. The talk and panel schedule is published only after speakers are selected, so an empty programme now is expected rather than a warning sign.
For early-career researchers in AI theory, the value here is the room: a small, screened cohort and the senior people who come to meet them. The specific venue within Warwick had not been announced at the time of writing.
