One-hour Columbia session on designing, validating and responsibly using AI agents for teaching.

“Best Practices in Designing AI Agents” is a one-hour online session hosted by Columbia University’s Center for Teaching and Learning on 27 October 2026, from 12:00 to 13:00 US Eastern Time. It is aimed at Columbia instructors interested in building custom AI agents for teaching and learning.

According to the event page, the workshop introduces the fundamentals of AI agents and how they differ from general-purpose AI tools such as chatbots, then explores the educational opportunities and challenges they present. It addresses design considerations including transparency, bias, ethics and learner agency, and offers practical methods for creating and validating agents for classroom use.

The session is delivered fully online, with registration handled through Columbia’s CU Events system. No individual speakers are named on the page, and the format is a hands-on session led by Columbia’s teaching-and-learning staff; note that participation is intended for Columbia instructors.
