📍 UNU-MERIT (Maastricht) and UNU-EHS (Bonn), Maastricht, Netherlands

Five-day UNU training on using AI research methods to produce more effective public policy.

AI Research for Better Policy is an intensive in-person training running from 18 to 22 January 2027, split across two cities: participants begin at UNU-MERIT in Maastricht, Netherlands (18–19 January) before travelling to UNU-EHS in Bonn, Germany, for the remainder (20–22 January). Sessions run from 09:00 on the opening day to 17:00 on the final day.

The programme is aimed at PhD students, early-career researchers and working professionals, and focuses squarely on applying artificial intelligence to policy-oriented research for sustainable development. Named contributors include Serge Stinckwich (UNU Macau), David Daou (UNU-EHS), Emanuele Pugliese and Tommaso Ciarli (both UNU-MERIT), and Jia An Liu (UNU Macau).

The standard fee is EUR 1,250, reduced to EUR 1,100 for early-bird applicants who apply before 1 August 2026. Applications are open, with a final deadline of 1 October 2026. As the course is delivered in person across two locations, attendees should budget for travel and accommodation in both Maastricht and Bonn.
