AI Policy Compass: Navigating the Opportunities and Risks of Artificial Intelligence is a two-day executive learning programme delivered jointly by Mila — Québec AI Institute and the Public Policy Forum's PPF Academy. The English edition runs in downtown Ottawa on 5–6 November 2026 (a separate French edition is hosted in Montreal). Rather than a conference, it is a structured course aimed at decision-makers and policy professionals from federal, provincial and municipal government as well as private, academic and non-profit organisations working on AI governance.
The curriculum is built around four themes: unpacking AI and its key applications and life cycle; weighing its opportunities, risks and harms through expert-led case studies; introducing a policy framework covering the major categories of response to AI; and reflecting on the leadership questions the field demands. Teaching blends case studies, lecturettes from Mila's AI experts and hands-on exposure to real models and code, with no prior programming experience required. Participants leave with an analytical framework for AI policy decisions, access to current resources and entry into a Mila/PPF alumni network. With lunch included on both days and a members' discount available, this is a credible, non-technical grounding for anyone shaping AI policy in Canada — backed by one of the world's leading AI research institutes and a respected public-policy body.
