UMAP is the ACM's home conference for user modelling, personalization and adaptive systems — the research lineage behind recommender systems, adaptive interfaces and personalized learning.

It matters now because personalization is where AI meets the individual: as LLMs move into assistants and tutors, UMAP's long focus on user models, transparency and the ethics of adaptation is suddenly central to how agentic systems tailor themselves without manipulating the people they serve.
