2026 Workshop on Machine Learning for Land and Hydrology
📅 Tuesday, 3 November 2026 → Thursday, 5 November 2026 in 105 days
ECMWF in-person workshop on ML-based land-surface and hydrological forecasting, Reading, 3-5 Nov 2026.
Hosted at ECMWF headquarters in Reading, this workshop brings together the land-surface and hydrology community with machine-learning researchers to examine the development and use of ML-based and ML-enhanced forecasting systems. It is explicitly in-person only, with no virtual attendance option.
Sessions cover data-driven, hybrid and physics-informed approaches to predicting streamflow, floods, soil moisture and related land and hydrological processes. Attendees come to compare emerging ML architectures against traditional physically based models and to shape how operational centres integrate machine learning into land and hydrological prediction. Run by a leading operational weather-forecasting centre, the workshop offers a rigorous, research-grade setting focused squarely on machine learning for the Earth system and climate-relevant water cycle.
